Hello 2019 | The Year of Self Care

Hello 2019 | The Year of Self Care

Okay, so it’s just over a week into 2019. Let’s say hello to the year of self care (for me anyway). I haven’t made any New Years resolutions, because that’s not me. But I have set myself a few small goals and made myself a promise for this year. Hopefully my goals will outgrow me in a few months and I’ll have to make new ones; that’s my plan anyway.

I figured out that if I set myself small goals for the first couple of months in 2019, hopefully I’ll outgrow them throughout the months and have to set myself bigger goals. I guess you could say I’m using the stepping stone method, purely because I feel like this way will work out better for me. It doesn’t work for everyone. You might be sitting there thinking ‘go big or go home’ and that great! If it works for you, you do you girl.

Anyway, if you haven’t guessed already, one of the main things I want to focus on this year is self care. Not just the ‘put a face mask on and get in a nice hot candlelit bath‘ sort of self care. Although that is GREAT and I will be putting it into practice weekly. I also want to take care of myself more in the way of the things I eat, making sure I get the right exercise etc.

Year of Self Care

I’m not going to do the whole ‘new year, new me’ scenario, but by the end of this year I would like to feel 100% confident in my body. I want to know that I’m doing all that I can, inside and out, to make me feel good.

  • Figure out (and stick to) an actual skincare routine
  • Hit at least 5,000 steps every day
  • Drink a pint of water a day

Here are my small goals which I’m working on for the first couple of months, or hopefully even less! I’m looking to increase these by the end of February at the latest, and then I’m thinking of adding a few more.

  • Go to the gym 2 times a week, along side 7,000 steps daily
  • Take an hour a week out to read and/or draw
  • Stick to my skincare routing
  • Drink 2 pints of water a day

I’d love to be able to set myself huge goals, and actually stick to them. But that isn’t realistic for me, and I never stick to huge goals. My one promise for this year is to find my self confidence again. I’m hoping with my small goals, my promise will be easier to fulfil toward the end of the year.

Do you have any resolutions or goals this year? Is 2019 going to be your year of self care? Let me know in the comments.

Kayla great list of goals. I think smart that you decided to set small goals catering to self care. Taking care of yourself is so important and there was nothing selfish about it will you take care of you, you are able to serve others better. I try not to make big goals because it’s a ton of pressure on myself but I like to make sure I’m not making super easy goals because I enjoy the challenge. Your post reminded me that you have to do what’s best for you and not care what others think. Good for you and establish lie your own boundaries and limits.

I really like that you’re starting small with the hope of increasing them. It’s way more manageable that way and you’ll already feel like you’ve achieved something when you up your goals. Good luck with the first set 😘

Great post Kayla! and a great set of small but definitely achievable goals. I like how you’re being realistic and also not putting too much pressure on yourself and understand that goals can change and be set whenever you’d like. My goals for the first few months are to stay consistent with my blog, start a bullet journal and start my fitness journey as well as eat more vegetarian meals. Thanks for sharing! x

I love this! You are dead right to use the stepping stone method.. there would be no point going crazy when you know it wouldn’t work for you.. We have similar goals and a similar mindset it seems, I really need to drink more water, and also want to exercise more! Best of luck, and I hope you have a fab 2019 xx

I think you’re spot on with the stepping stone method, Kayla! Setting huge goals can be really daunting for me and it’s just far too much pressure. I really hope you get your self confidence back in 2019!

Great goals right there! I am doing similar and looking after myself more. I have been using a habit tracker and it has made such a difference in motivating me. Started with a morning routine with them and building from there. Good luck with yours

    Love your goals. Enjoy

I am so in love with the theme you’ve picked out for the year. It is so important to get some self-care going because you’re the best person to take care of yourself. It is good to take things one step at a time before taking leaps. Good luck with all of these points! Sending you positive vibes.

These are great, realistic goals πŸ™Œ
    Really hope you reach them.

I love this idea, self care is so so important! And I feel like I always put so much pressure on myself to have 10 massive new years resolutions each year, so I like the idea of the little stepping stone ones that you can add to! Good luck with it! Ellie x

Love your goals, I like how you took the approach of taking care of your inside (although masks and baths are amazing lol) your inside will reflect on your outside. X

I want to improve my skincare routine this year too πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Great idea of breaking your goals in to smaller steps! And side note… I have the same dachshund bed covers as in your photos haha… love them!

These are great goals, and brilliant that you’ve managed to keep them within an achievable range. Self care is overlooked by so many people, so it’s great that you’re highlighting it’s importance.Keep up the positive voice, we all need a little reminding to take care of ourselves!

  15. January 10, 2019 / 9:02 PM

This is a fab list, and it’s not too massive and overpowering like I think a lot of people set themselves up for stress by doing!
Skincare is my thing – I’m trying to up my game this year with it! Happy to chat to you about anything skincare if you like – I’m always on Instagram (www.instagram.com/tsundokugirl) and there’s posts on my blog! Big ol’ skincare nerd, me! Hahaha!

I am exactly the same, if I set myself ‘big’ goals I find myself under pressure and ‘fail’ but this year I am setting my self smaller goals that I can achieve easily by breaking them down into even smaller goals for each month. These are really great goals and I love how everyone seems to be working on being so much more positive this year!!

I feel this really strongly, my goal this year is definitely to take better care of myself and I actually wrote a similar post to this! I think your goals sound great and I love that you’ve broken them down to make sure you aren’t overwhelmed. I definitely need to work on drinking more water this year, I’m terrible for that. Good luck with your goals!

Im also trying to be a lot better to myself this year, your points are really good m, I also need to do a lot more steps and actually keep track of them! Happy new year! Xx

  19. January 11, 2019 / 8:19 PM

I love the fact these are your goals, because they are just as important, if not more than the big ones. Taking care of ourselves and our health first is everything.

My goals for the year are silly things like getting another tattoo, I feel like I need to completely change my list now!

I’m such a big fan of the smaller goals! We’ve actually picked really similar ones, I’ve switched up my skincare routine, bought a Chillys bottle to inspire myself to drink more water at work and I want to get fit this year. I’m not too fussed about losing weight but I want to feel healthy and strong in my own skin. Good luck, hopefully we’ll both keep to your goals this year!

  21. January 13, 2019 / 8:11 PM

I never stick to goals if I set huge ones either so smaller more manageable ones are much better! I really hope you manage to reach these and then like you said you can keep adding to them. I’m trying to take better care of my skin this year too and I’d love to get back into running too!

I want to focus more on self care this year too. One of my goals is also to go to the gym more. I currently go about twice a week but I would love to go more as I’m trying to lose weight!

  23. January 13, 2019 / 8:42 PM

I can totally get on board with 2019 being the year of self care. It’s something I want to focus on more myself, too; I got into it towards the end of 2018, but there’s definitely improvements I can make. I love that you’re talking about the essentials, too, and are working to improve yourself in ways that are important to you. The stepping stone method you’re using is a great way of going about it! Best of luck with your goals for this year!

I think self care is so important, but can go overlooked too which is a shame. I’m going to get back into wearing my fitbit this year to try and increase the amount of steps I do, it can be shocking to realise how little you do sometimes when you haven’t got something telling you to move haha!xx

If an old fella can comment and say, I truly believe to be empowered one must have big goals, success and happiness being high up there, but number one priority must always be our health, and self care is essential for this. Hope we all can stick with our self care resolutions this year and for many years forward.

Walking, drinking and reading more are definitely activities I improved upon during 2018, and I feel great for it! One thing I do want to do this year is improve my skin-care and night time routines, self-care is so important! Best of luck with your goals x

Great post! (Sorry I couldn’t comment on your latest one – my firewall blocked me from viewing it?!) But YES to self care! It’s been a really tricky beginning of the year for me so I’m doing everything I can to focus on my self care at the moment xxx

That’s so strange! I’m not sure why that has happened – I’ll have to have a look into it!

Self care is soo important so I’m glad you’re doing your best to focus on it! xxx
