My first trimester feels like it was an age away already and I don’t know whether I’m more excited or scared to be saying hello to the third trimester. The weeks are flying by and it’s hard to believe we’ll be meeting our baby boy in around three month’s time.
To be honest for the majority of it, the second trimester has been pretty smooth sailing. I’ve suffered a little with aches and pains towards to the end, but it’s nothing that a little soak in the bath hasn’t eased so far. My sleep pattern is a little all over the place, maybe even non existent a times. People like to say that this is our body preparing for sleepless nights ahead, but you think it’d be better to conserve that energy for the time being?
I apparently have an appointment almost every week these days, and if I go one week without an appointment; that means I somehow have two the next. Soz to the girls from work cause I feel like I’m almost never around.
My bump has definitely made itself known now, I already feel like a beached whale some days; pray for me. I’d say that I ‘popped’ around 22 weeks and my belly button now apparently resembles a Skip (you know, the little prawn cocktail shell crisps? Yes. Thanks for that, Nathan). And since I’m starting to get a little rounder my new circle of best friends includes my maternity leggings, Aldi pregnancy pillow and oversized jumpers.
Baby Jones definitely likes to remind me that I’m never alone anymore, movements are the most amazing but weirdest feelings I’ve ever experienced. In the beginning they felt like butterflies or bubbles in my tummy, now they’re strong little kicks and waves when he’s turning. He enjoys a midmorning kick about and a nighttime boogie. Sometimes I swear he’s trying to dig himself out already; no little man, my belly button is not an escape route!
Oh yeah, if you haven’t already guessed from the ‘little man’ or ‘he’; we found out Baby Jones is a little boy on Christmas Eve, the cutest Christmas pressie of all time. 💙 He definitely wanted to let us know, he was practically waving his little todger at us in the scan. I’m adamant he’s going to be the spit of his daddy already, hedefinitely has his nose in all of the scan pictures lately!
It’s only taken us 6 months but we’ve finally started gotten our act together and started to stock up on baby bits and buy the larger must-haves. I guess that in itself is making it sink in a whole lot quicker. Baby clothes are my new obsession and my Instagram feed is now full of smaller, independent shops which produce the most adorable clothing and toys!
On to the cravings, but what cravings? A lot of people have been surprised to hear that I’ve not really had any particular cravings throughout my second trimester. Although, I have been using cravings as an excuse for eating everything instead, especially now that I can finally stomach more than just carbs, which is nice to have a bit of flavour back in my life.
Nesting has also apparently kicked in. Cleaning, organising, throwing things away, you name it I’ve done it, scrubbed it or organised it. I think I may actually be driving Nathan mad as well as myself. He can’t leave anything lying around and everything has to be in its place. I’m exhausted pretty much all the time, but I also apparently have to rearrange the food cupboards, ensure everything still in date and clean them all at the same time?
Anyway, I think I’ve rambled enough. If you made it this far, thank you, you apparently have the patience of a saint. Until next time! 👋🏻
