Christmas Markets – When and Where?

facetune-4img_5429-1img_5428-1img_6875One thing that makes me feel all warm and festive inside is definitely Christmas markets. So I thought I’d share some local markets with you. Nathan and I have been off work over the past week, so we have visited a couple ourselves. We love a good adventure when we have the time.

So when and where? Most Christmas markets are now open, or just opening and are usually open right up until the week before Christmas.

One we have visited this week is Chester Christmas markets, which are our nearest festive markets. They opened up on Thursday 16th November, and we visited on Friday whilst on a little shopping trip with Nathan’s Mum. They are based smack bang in the heart of Chester on the Town Hall Square, near the Forum Shopping Centre and the Cathedral.

They will be around until the 20th December, with around 50-75 stalls (this is just my guestimate guys, I definitely did not go around counting the stalls). They are all filled with crafts and tonnes of delicious treats to pick up along the way!

As well as Chester, Manchester Christmas Markets are also open now. They were one of the earliest to open their doors this year, on the 10th November and are there right up until December the 21st. The main market is based in Albert Square, and we walked there from the Arndale Centre. It wasn’t too far, maybe about at 15-20 minute walk.

However, along with the main market hub there are other smaller sections dotted around the city centre – we visited a few, but not all. My favourite part is the ice rink based in Cathedral Gardens, which is only a stone throw away from the Arndale Centre.

This year was my first year to the Manchester markets, and I absolutely loved them – you can’t beat the warm scent of mulled wine! I think the only thing that put me off a little is how busy they are. We went on Monday, and I was expecting it to be a little busy but it was absolutely packed. Every time I visit a city it makes me realise how much I wouldn’t be able to cope living there myself. I’m not the best with crowds and I love coming home to our quiet little village afterwards.

Liverpool Christmas Markets is one that we have not managed to visit as of yet. This is because they opened on Friday 17th November and we, unfortunately, had plans over the weekend and visited the city earlier on in the week for Christmas shopping. Hopefully, we will get the chance before they finish on the 22nd December.

They are all based at St George’s Plateau, along with the Windmill Bar and Grill and the German beer bar. When I visited last year, Nathan and I went along with my Dad and a few of his friends and we absolutely loved the German Beer Bar!

Well, they are my most local Christmas markets. Have you visited any yet? I’d love to hear! Let me know down below in the comments, or tweet me!

Shooting for the Stars

It’s Sunday, and everyone loves a relaxing lazy Sunday right? Well, this week I hate Sunday because I have been off work all week on ‘holiday’ although I haven’t actually been that far. But Sunday means I’m back in work tomorrow, the dreaded Monday morning.

This evening I’m going to enjoy a nice relaxing bath filled with lush goodies and when thinking about that note I wanted to share with you how much I enjoyed using my Shooting for the Stars bath bomb that came in my Night Before Christmas gift box off my Sister.

It’s a honey-scented bath bomb, with a hint of Brazilian orange which sounds right up my street. It’s a lovely deep blue colour with the golden sparkling stars throughout which come away from the blue once it is submerged in water, because these are sweet little bath melts in the form of cocoa butter and gold glitter. Could this be any more perfect to warm you up on a cold winter’s night? I don’t think so.

It leaves the bath water a lovely glistening blue with all the shimmers you could imagine, whilst the bath melts leave your skin wonderfully silky and soft and slightly shimmery once you get out! But that’s just part of the fun.

All in all, I loved this little beauty and just wished I’d used it earlier so I could pick some up before the Christmas range came to an end.

What’s your favourite piece from Lush’s Christmas range this year? I’d love to hear all about it!

Lush Haul – Christmas Gifts

I was super lucky and received a hell of a lot of Lush goodies for Christmas this year, some I had tried others I have wanted for a while and just not got round to picking them up from my local Lush store. Today, I just thought it would be nice to share with you what I received.

Snow Fairy has been my ultimate favourite since the first time a picked it up a couple of years back, and I was lucky enough to be gifted two bottles this year. One 1kg bottle, and one 100g bottle, perfect for travelling, I’m definitely not going to run out for a while. I also received Rose Jam shower gel and Fairy Dust, both in 100g bottles.

I’ve never really gotten around to using any of Lush’s lib scrub, a lot of people use these before applying a matte lipstick to stop your lips from getting dry and cracked. This year I was given Bubblegum, and Santa’s lip scrub so I have no excuse not to exfoliate my lips now. Silky smooth lips for me.

My sister treated me to the Night before Christmas gift set. Which includes a bath bomb and a bath melt. Shooting for the Stars and Snow Angel. I’ve never used either of these before, Snow Angel is very glittery and I love a little bit of sparkle in my life so I can’t wait to use this! Shooting for the Stars is a honey scented bath bomb, with a hint of Brazilian orange which sounds lush. I love fruity scents, so this one is definitely for me.

I also have wanted to try the Experimenter after seeing lots of people post about it on blogs, and social media so I can’t wait to see the ray of colours it leaves my bath water.

When I attended a Lush event a couple of years ago (read about it here) we were shown what Stardust is like when you emerge it in water, all of the stars *insert heart eye emoji here* and when I found out it was being re-released as a Christmas edition again this year. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it, so I asked my Dad for it on my Christmas list this year along with Intergalactic.

I am so excited to start using these, I have been holding off until I had pictures for this blog post so now I can go nuts!

It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas…

I don’t know about you but there are certain little things that happen throughout December – sometimes even as early as November  – which start to give me that little ‘oh, it’s nearly Christmas’ feel.

The first one is the earliest one, it’s always on the TV around early November time and it’s like the switch flips inside of me and all of a sudden I can’t wait until Christmas. Especially this year because as you know it is Nathan and I’s first year in our home. You can only imagine how excited I was to buy the decorations, let alone put them up! Can you guess what it is?Most people see the John Lewis advert as the beginning of the festivity, but no! For me it’s the Coca Cola Christmas advert.

Then the Christmas songs, and decorations come out in the shops. Which obviously means I can put my decorations up at home, right? My Christmas decorations went up at the end of November – a little early I know but I wanted to make sure I had enough lights and decorations on it. In the end it turns out I’d bought a little too many, now we have fairy lights not only on the tree, but up the banister also.

I would say when the mince pies start showing up on the shelves in supermarkets, but I’ve never really liked minced pies…

Of course, you then see the towns and villages where I live turn their Christmas lights on, and for the past couple of years the Coca Cola truck has been in our local town. This year they have put a little nativity scene on the church near where my Dad lives, which is cute. They had a little evening to turn on the Christmas lights and open the nativity scene.

Then the advent calendars come out, and before you know it your two weeks into December before you even know it! Can you believe there’s only 2 more Monday’s until Christmas? I think the festivity in the Hughes-Jones household is in full swing, it’s time to get the Christmas films out!

What makes you feel festive? I’d love to hear…

pssst can you please link me to your blogmas/festive posts I need something to read!

Must Have Stocking Fillers – For Her

I would like to say that I have finished my Christmas shopping, but will I actually ever finish? I always seem to think I’ve finished, but then end up picking up extra bits for people when I don’t really need to.

I have to say, stocking fillers are my favourite thing to buy, little quirky things that you just know someone will love – especially if they’re meaningful. Today I’m going to share my must have stocking fillers for the lovely ladies in your life.

Oh K Nail File Duo | 2017 Botanical Diary | Faux Fur Pom Pom Hot Water Bottle | Keep Calm and Colour Mermaids | Makeup Revolution Iconic Nudes Brush Set | Pandora Cherry Blossom Stud Earrings

I have to admit, a few of these were on my Christmas list, but they’re so cute I thought I had to share them with you…

Secret Santa £5 and Under

The festive period is vastly approaching, and I thought I’d start whacking out the festive posts! Although unfortunately won’t be taking part in Blogmas, as there is just not enough hours in the day for me, I will be posting regular festive content leading up to the Christmas period.

What better way to start than with a gift guide? Secret Santa is something we are going to be taking part in, in work this year. We have set ourselves a limit of £5 so I have been scouring the shops for deals and thought I’d share my ideas with you guys!

Rudolph Heat Change Mug | Blooming Gorgeous Relaxing Bath Remedy | Nivea Lip Balm Tin | Flutter Wooden Frame | Soap & Glory Happy Pamper Gift Set

I thought it would be really hard to try and find a decent gift for £5 and under but after looking, I realised there’s a huge variety to chose from! Are you taking part in Secret Santa anywhere this year? I’d love to hear your ideas!

My Week in Pictures

So this week, Nathan had the week off and I was off work Tuesday through to today. I couldn’t get the Monday off but I was more than happy to go to work on that day as I knew I had the rest of the week off.

I know this post is a little late in the day but I have been out to various shops with Nathan picking up more Christmas bits and bobs. I thought it would be nice to show you my week in pictures this week, instead of just rambling on about it.

Here goes.

I admit, I probably could have taken better quality pictures and probably more! But I have been wayyy too busy enjoying life for that this week. Christmas just brings out something inside of me. I have been suuuuper crafty – I have made 3 peoples Christmas presents and a birthday present and my sister text me earlier asking me to make Christmas Eve boxes for my Nieces, and I can not wait to get stuck into that! I might even make myself one.

I hope you have had a lovely week my wonderful little fairies.

DIY Gift Ideas

So this year, I’ve decided that to save money on Christmas gift buying. I’m going down the DIY route, especially for gifts for the women in my family. I have already started making a few, and wanted to do a step by step DIY post on a couple. But then I realised I have a few family members that read my blog, and I wouldn’t want them to know what their gift was before Christmas.

So instead, I have decided to share a couple of idea’s which have inspired me along the way. That way I won’t be mentioning any names. I won’t be showing you an exact gift that I have made myself, and if said certain family members read this post, they won’t know exactly which ones are their own because the ones that I have made already are personalised with names etc.

I have to admit, Pinterest has been a life saver for DIY gift idea’s. Over the past few weeks it has been my best friend. So here we go!

Make your own candles

I got this idea from this pin, and then the step-by-step how to from Something Turquoise. You can easily get all of the supplies online, including a Christmassy scent. I like the idea of making the candles in vintage cups instead of mason jars and I’m sure 99% of the women in my life love candles.

 Multi photo frame

So, I have had this idea in mind for ages and not had the chance to make it. Here is the pin which inspired me. I haven’t really found a step-by-step how to on this, so I just winged it. I bought all of my supplies from my local Wilkinsons store for like £10. I picked up some white enamel spray paint (which I go ID’ed for!), a plain wooden photo frame, some string and craft pegs.

First of all I took the glass and back out of the photo frame and sprayed all of the exterior of the frame white, left it to dry outside for around 20-30 minutes. Then measured the length of string to go from one side to the other, with a little excess and then tied the ends. There’s lots of ways you can fix the string to the frame, I chose to do it with small tack pins from the back of the frame to make it look neater. Then all you need to do is hang your chosen pictures with pegs! You can add little bits of decor on the frame to make it a little more personal. The one above is one that I am making for our house.

Gifts in a jar

If you search gifts in a jar on Pinterest, hundreds of different idea’s pop up. From food goodies to hot chocolate in a jar. There are so many different things that you put in a jar as a cute little gift for someone.

I think I’m going to go along with a Spa in a Jar idea (like here), where I’ll pick up some jar’s and pop along to places such as Superdrug and Boots, take advantage of offers such as 3 for 2 to get some travel sized items to fill them and then get hold of some cute decorative bits to give them more of a personal touch.

You can always look online on ways to create your own bath bombs, soaps etc if you’d like to go homemade with the products you fill your pamper jar with!

Wooden family tree frame

I have seen these everywhere lately, I thought it’d be cheaper to make my own than pay £25+ for one. So that’s what I did, I ordered the wooden tree cut out, along with some hearts. I then had a look around the pound shops in my local town to get some buttons and ribbons to add to it to make it a little more creative. I picked the frame to mount it from Wilkinsons when I picked up my things for the multi photo frame, and some superglue to attach it all together.

Are you becoming a craft elf this year? If so share your idea’s and inspiration with me, I’d love to hear. You can either drop a comment below or tweet me!

Christmas at Home, with Next

How quickly is this year going? I can’t believe I’m talking Christmas on the blog already, 2016 is going crazy quick. This year is going to be Nathan and I’s first Christmas in our own home and although I’ve already bought most of the Christmas decorations, the other day I was sorting my desk drawers out and I found a £50 Next voucher that we got for our engagement off my Godfather. Only one thing came to mind, more Christmas decorations!

So I’ve been having a little nosey on the Next website at the Christmas decorations, and here are some of my favourites!

Driftwood Effect Stag | Lit Red Bell Twigs  | Winter Spruce Fragranced Candles  | Wood Effect Buntin | 30 Pre Lit White Glitter Berry Garland

We’re going for a white and red theme! I wanted to have a blue and silver theme through out but Nathan disagreed. He wanted to go for warmer colours like red and gold. But he should know by now, that I hate the colour gold. I wont wear gold jewellery so why would I want my house filled with gold over my favourite time of the year? In the end we met in the middle and chose white and red!

I am so excited to put my Christmas tree up this year, I  am going to go all out. I’ve been eyeing up some Christmas bed sheets too!
