Lazy Girls Guide to the Perfect Body | Guest Post ft. Brigitte

Today we have a very special guest over on Danity Dweeb. Say hello to Brigitte, who is a Cosmetic Skin Care Consultant from highstylife.com. I have never had a guest post on my blog before, however Brigitte was so lovely from the get go and I couldn’t say no! Here goes…

A Lazy Girl’s Guide to the Perfect Body

Yes, yes, it’s true – we want it all. We want our little snacks while we binge-watch our favorite TV series, we want zero time at the gym and we want to wake up with the perfect body every morning. And yes, we know it’s virtually impossible to be a couch potato and still look like a supermodel (or at least a regular one), when we step outside our house in the morning. We’re also painfully aware that couch potatoes and models don’t mix and that effortless perfection is a myth. Yes, we all know that one girl who can eat whatever, whenever and when you ask her how she looks the way she does she just nonchalantly replies ‘oh, I just have the best metabolism, I never seem to put on weight’. We hate that girl too. So, what to do? There is a middle ground of course, you know, minimum input, maximum results, so perhaps you could give that a try? Come on, jump on board, we promise you’ll still have plenty of lying around time left in your day. Let’s go!

Move it, move it!

Don’t be frightened, we’re not going to lure you into going to the gym, we know you dread the word. However, there are certain tiny amounts of effort that in the long run can be truly beneficial. For one, try standing up and simply moving a bit more. Dr John Buckley from the University of Chester states that spending all the time sitting, whether in the car, couch or your office is actually completely unnatural and that three extra hours on your feet would burn up 144 more calories and get rid of 8lb of fat a year.

You have to admit – 8lb by just standing, you can pull that off. Another great trick is to move while you’re on the phone – if you know the conversation is going to be lengthy, step outside and take a walk while you’re talking. Ok, once you’ve taken those baby steps, it’s time to get an actual workout, but don’t worry, these are short exercises you can do from the comfort of your own home – every lazy girl’s dream. So, pick one of these 18 amazing YouTube channels that will teach you how to get a great workout while staying near your beloved couch.

Seek expert help

Of course, low-impact exercise can only do much, that’s why they’re called ‘low impact’ in the first place. If there is a particular area that really bugs you, like that pesky fat around your tummy that just won’t go away on its own or that booty that is everything but bootylicious, consider seeking professional help and get rid of all your self-esteem downers.

Luckily, there is an abundance of amazing non-invasive and non-surgical procedures you can undergo to say good bye and good riddance to all that pesky fat, and fat cavitation is one of them. Treatments like this use low frequency ultrasound that basically dissolves and kills fat from the outside, so there are no punctures or incisions – just immediate results. This is every lazy gal’s Holy Grail.

Minor adjustments

The general rule of thumb is 70% nutrition, 30% exercise. If you pay attention and listen to our low impact + treatment advice, all that’s left for you to do are minor tweaks in your dietary habits. Trust us, a little goes a long way. For instance, say goodbye to midnight snacks, sugary drinks and foods in general. These are just empty calories with no real nutritional value. Avoid processed foods as much as you can and try cooking with fresh ingredients for a change. No, healthy food doesn’t have to be bland and flavorless. There are amazing smoothies that you can make to kick the morning off right. Your blender does all the work and you get all your nutrients, including the much needed protein for a great day. Grill and steam your meat and veggies instead of frying them. It’s simpler and it will definitely save you from scrubbing that oily pan. Knowing you’re a real health neophyte, we have found a perfect list of yes and no foods and drinks, so print it and use it as a cheat sheet until you get the hang of it. Good luck, lazy gal!

P.S. Don’t forget the importance of proper hydration – don’t settle for anything less than 8 glasses a day.

That’s all for today guys. I hope you have enjoyed Brigitte’s post as much as I did! Do you do anything to keep fit? I’d love to hear! Tweet me or let me know in the comments below.

Why I Did I Start Blogging? | Sunday Thoughts

To a lot of people this may sound like a stupid question, we all started blogging because we enjoy it right? But for some people, like myself, there’s a little more behind it than ‘just because I enjoy it‘.

I have always been very creative in a lot of different ways I suppose, and when you’re a creative person you’re always looking for an outlet. Throughout my educational years, I loved art – I still do! I just don’t get time to sit and draw for hours on end like I’d want to. These days it’s more just of a doodle here and there and because I don’t put too much effort it into my doodles 99% of the time they’re a load of crap.

I also danced for a fair few years, until I finished college. I turned 18 and I just stopped, no idea why or how – just one day the passion to dance was there, and then it wasn’t. I’d love to get back into it but man, I just love to binge on junk food a little bit more these days, and the physique is just no longer there. Which I’m growing to accept, I’m no longer that 18 year old size 6-8, that could dance for hours on end and still be able to walk afterwards. People change.

In my college years, I did art, media studies and dance. Probably the most creative mixture you could come up with in A Levels. I loved the fact that I could create art in all different formats everyday, from music video’s to pencil drawings and so on, so forth. But when I left college and went into full time work. All of that creativity just disappeared – just like that. Poof, and it was gone. Well apart from the fact that my job title in Subway was Sandwich Artist. But there really was no art to making a sub, slap it all on and there you go. From there, I literally had no creative outlet. No reason to do anything, and I was working ridiculous hours too so even trying to fit anything in was much near impossible. But, I did manage to fit a few tattoo sessions in, placing art on my skin is creativity too, right? I had a few idea’s and my fabulous tattooist brought them to life. Although, I think he’d prefer the work awesome, rather than fabulous – sorry Dan!

All of that rambling on brings me here, to Dainty Dweeb. The only creative outlet I have left and that’s what it is to me. My creative outlet. Although most posts are me rambling on about anything that comes to mind, and to some it may not be so creative. But to me, it’s my creativity. I design my own blog headers, and all though my photo’s aren’t that great – I take them all myself. It’s something that subsides my desire to create, for now at least. I see all these independent women who are starting they’re own businesses and shops and I’m sat here like damn girl you could do that. Truth is I really couldn’t. I wouldn’t be able to survive all my bills without my full time job and I certainly don’t have the time around that to all the work that comes with your own business. So high five to you gal’s (and guys) who take the plunge and do your own thing. You are great.

Why did you start blogging? I’d love to hear your story! Tweet me or drop a comment below.

Happy 2nd Birthday Dainty Dweeb

Warning: This post consists of a hell of a lot of rambling, a little bit of ranting and will probably be a little bit of a bore but I AM PROUD.

Two whole years already? Can you actually believe it, because I definitely can’t. When I first started Dainty Dweeb, well it was just kaylajaynehughes back then, I didn’t know whether it would last a month never mind 2 years. I’m proud of how far we have come. Is that weird? Calling my and my blog we. Oh well, who cares if it is. I’m proud that I have stuck to it at times when I have wanted to throw the towel in. I’m proud of myself for persevering through bloggers block and the days where I almost, well probably did give up on blog pictures because I just couldn’t get the right lighting. WE MADE IT GIRL. We’re still here. Powering on.

I am immensely thankful for you guys who actually take the time to read whether its rambling posts like these, or wishlists, reviews, y’know. It all means a lot, like wow people actually read this shit and most days that’s what it is, shit that just splurts out on my keyboard and then before you know it we have a full blown post. This little venture is actually growing, and it’s growing a lot more than I expected lately and I love it. The support, the community, the friends. I LOVE IT. I love you. Seriously guys, lets share the love because why the hell not?

One thing I want to do is become more interactive with the bloggers I love. I’m always way too shy, even if it’s only on social media – I’m always scared I’ll come across weird but it’s going to be one of my goals to overcome this and I’m going to smash it, or at least try.

Anyway, I’m gonna leave this here with a massive THANK YOU, again.

Also, a little loves you.

2017 Blogging Goals

So I didn’t write any goals what so ever for 2016, no blogging or personal goals and I think that’s why the year has been a little messy all round! Although I am super happy with where Dainty Dweeb is going considering I started blogging in 2015 with pretty much no idea what I was doing. I didn’t think anyone would read it, at all let alone read regularly. But here we are, with regular readers and followers and all that jazz. So, I’m super pleased about that. But this year, I think it’s about time I started with some blogging goals. Something to motivate me and my writing.

  • Be more interactive. I like to think I’m a little interactive with the blogs I love reading, but I want to be more interactive with the writers behind the blogs. I want to make friends, friends with the same interests, friends who actually care, friends like you guys.
  • Improve my photography. I have said this over and over again since 2015, and I think I have improved slightly but there’s always room for improvement. I want to take pictures where I look at them and think, hey that’s a great photo; not just ‘yeah that’s okay, it’ll do’.
  • Get some blogging equipment. This also kind of ties in with my photography improvement. I want to get a camera, a ring light because my god it’s so hard finding the time to shoot in daylight these days. When I have the motivation and inspiration to take photo’s it’s always too dark and when the daylight comes I’m either too busy or full on in laze mode where I don’t want to be doing anything.
  • Read more. I need to find some new blogs that I love just as much as my all time favourites. I think it’s a disgrace that I can count the blogs I read regularly on one hand. This definitely needs to change.
  • Invest more time on my own blog. This seems to come and go depending on personal life, which I’m okay with. But I would like to regulate the time I spend on my own blog where possible. I want to schedule two posts a week where possible and stick to that.

Okay, so there we go. They’re not massive goals, or milestone goals but they are my goals. Do you have any goals this year? Whether that may be personal or blogging, I’d love to hear!

Top 5 of 2016

First things first, I’d like to wish you all a very happy new year! I hope you have enjoyed the holidays profusely my dears, because I definitely have.

I can’t really believe I’m writing this post already, the year has gone so quick. I just thought I’d share my 5 most popular posts of 2016. All together through out the year Dainty Dweeb has had 3,307 views, 1,304 visitors, 280 likes and 160 comments. Wow! A lot more than I thought, considering my blog is just a hobby it’s more than I could have imagined.

Inspirations for a Lifestyle Post

img_0503

When I wrote this post, little did I know it would become my most popular post of 2016, with 155 views and 100 likes. It just goes to show people prefer to read posts that you enjoy to write because I thoroughly enjoyed writing this. It was so much fun thinking of different things that can help inspire others to write a lifestyle post.

The Versatile Blogger Award

Taking part in tag’s is always fun, you end up finding out things about other bloggers you never knew, whether is a personal tag or not they’re always fun to read! I was tagged in this by Hollie from It’s Hollie Ann and although I’ve known Hollie for years, we actually went to school together, I actually learnt something new about her from her post!

The Big Move

img_3707

I still remember the excitement I had when writing this post. I can’t believe Nathan and I have been in our home for nearly a year already. It only feels like we moved in a couple of months ago! Time flies and all that. I can tell you now, we’re still picking up bits that we need, like the other day I made boiled eggs for dippy soldiers for breakfast the other day and realised we had no egg cups. Yes, I did call it dippy soldiers, I’m still a kid at heart okay?

Primark Haul

img_0207

Ahhh, a good old Primark haul. Who doesn’t love to see what others pick up in the shops? All though I must say, all of my picks from this haul are stored away in my drawers now, as it’s a little cold to be wearing them at the moment!

Mini Drugstore Haul – The Aftermath

img_3930

All though I’ve never been much of a beauty blogger – I’m not the best with make up and I’d much rather chuck my hair up in a messy bun in the mornings. I am rather proud of how well this post did! Maybe, it will give me the confidence to toy around with beauty posts a little more this year? Who knows!

Well that’s it, my top five posts of this year. Sitting here cosy in bed, I can’t help but wonder what will be my top 5 posts of 2017?

Must Have Stocking Fillers – For Her

I would like to say that I have finished my Christmas shopping, but will I actually ever finish? I always seem to think I’ve finished, but then end up picking up extra bits for people when I don’t really need to.

I have to say, stocking fillers are my favourite thing to buy, little quirky things that you just know someone will love – especially if they’re meaningful. Today I’m going to share my must have stocking fillers for the lovely ladies in your life.

Oh K Nail File Duo | 2017 Botanical Diary | Faux Fur Pom Pom Hot Water Bottle | Keep Calm and Colour Mermaids | Makeup Revolution Iconic Nudes Brush Set | Pandora Cherry Blossom Stud Earrings

I have to admit, a few of these were on my Christmas list, but they’re so cute I thought I had to share them with you…

My Week in Pictures

So this week, Nathan had the week off and I was off work Tuesday through to today. I couldn’t get the Monday off but I was more than happy to go to work on that day as I knew I had the rest of the week off.

I know this post is a little late in the day but I have been out to various shops with Nathan picking up more Christmas bits and bobs. I thought it would be nice to show you my week in pictures this week, instead of just rambling on about it.

Here goes.

I admit, I probably could have taken better quality pictures and probably more! But I have been wayyy too busy enjoying life for that this week. Christmas just brings out something inside of me. I have been suuuuper crafty – I have made 3 peoples Christmas presents and a birthday present and my sister text me earlier asking me to make Christmas Eve boxes for my Nieces, and I can not wait to get stuck into that! I might even make myself one.

I hope you have had a lovely week my wonderful little fairies.

DIY Gift Ideas

So this year, I’ve decided that to save money on Christmas gift buying. I’m going down the DIY route, especially for gifts for the women in my family. I have already started making a few, and wanted to do a step by step DIY post on a couple. But then I realised I have a few family members that read my blog, and I wouldn’t want them to know what their gift was before Christmas.

So instead, I have decided to share a couple of idea’s which have inspired me along the way. That way I won’t be mentioning any names. I won’t be showing you an exact gift that I have made myself, and if said certain family members read this post, they won’t know exactly which ones are their own because the ones that I have made already are personalised with names etc.

I have to admit, Pinterest has been a life saver for DIY gift idea’s. Over the past few weeks it has been my best friend. So here we go!

Make your own candles

35b8f9f515e335f4694a38d78830c3d6

I got this idea from this pin, and then the step-by-step how to from Something Turquoise. You can easily get all of the supplies online, including a Christmassy scent. I like the idea of making the candles in vintage cups instead of mason jars and I’m sure 99% of the women in my life love candles.

 Multi photo frame

img_5342

So, I have had this idea in mind for ages and not had the chance to make it. Here is the pin which inspired me. I haven’t really found a step-by-step how to on this, so I just winged it. I bought all of my supplies from my local Wilkinsons store for like £10. I picked up some white enamel spray paint (which I go ID’ed for!), a plain wooden photo frame, some string and craft pegs.

First of all I took the glass and back out of the photo frame and sprayed all of the exterior of the frame white, left it to dry outside for around 20-30 minutes. Then measured the length of string to go from one side to the other, with a little excess and then tied the ends. There’s lots of ways you can fix the string to the frame, I chose to do it with small tack pins from the back of the frame to make it look neater. Then all you need to do is hang your chosen pictures with pegs! You can add little bits of decor on the frame to make it a little more personal. The one above is one that I am making for our house.

Gifts in a jar

If you search gifts in a jar on Pinterest, hundreds of different idea’s pop up. From food goodies to hot chocolate in a jar. There are so many different things that you put in a jar as a cute little gift for someone.

I think I’m going to go along with a Spa in a Jar idea (like here), where I’ll pick up some jar’s and pop along to places such as Superdrug and Boots, take advantage of offers such as 3 for 2 to get some travel sized items to fill them and then get hold of some cute decorative bits to give them more of a personal touch.

You can always look online on ways to create your own bath bombs, soaps etc if you’d like to go homemade with the products you fill your pamper jar with!

Wooden family tree frame

I have seen these everywhere lately, I thought it’d be cheaper to make my own than pay £25+ for one. So that’s what I did, I ordered the wooden tree cut out, along with some hearts. I then had a look around the pound shops in my local town to get some buttons and ribbons to add to it to make it a little more creative. I picked the frame to mount it from Wilkinsons when I picked up my things for the multi photo frame, and some superglue to attach it all together.

Are you becoming a craft elf this year? If so share your idea’s and inspiration with me, I’d love to hear. You can either drop a comment below or tweet me!

The Versatile Blogger Award Tag

Well, it’s been a while since I’ve done a tag isn’t it? Whilst in work I got an email to advise that the lovely Hollie, from It’s Hollie Ann has nominated me for this – and I got so excited because I’ve been a little bit stuck in a rut with blogging lately, so it’s a nice little surprise and it has lightened my mood considerably.

The challenge is to share seven facts about myself, and then nominate other bloggers to do the same. It’s a fun way to learn more about each other, lets get started!

  1. My favourite animal is a tiger, and has been for as long as I can remember – if you’ve read my 20 things I want to do in my twenties post, you’ll know that I really want to stoke one.
  2. My favourite meal is good old classic bangers and mash, with lots and lots of gravy
  3. I run my own little business venture on this side of my full time job, in which I sell beauty products – I absolutely love it**
  4. I cannot bare bright colours for the life of me – give me neutral’s over neon’s every day!
  5. If asked what football team I support, I always say Manchester United.Even though I barely follow the football, this is probably because my mumma has supported them since she was little.
  6. I love to keep and create scrap books, I have around 6 or 7, but none of them are actually filled.
  7. Even though I’ve passed my driving test, I despise driving and I think that’s just out of fear and anxiety.

I found this really hard to write this post, because most of my interesting facts are in one of my very first blog posts 50 Random Facts, which seems like a decade ago.

I nominate Sarah, Hannah and Kimberley !

All you need to do to take part is make a list of seven facts about yourself and choose your own nominees who’s facts you’d like to read.

Good luck!

Sunday Thoughts #16

Firstly, I need to give myself a slap on the wrist or a kick up the backside because I have been so lazy in the blogging world recently. I have been absolutely disgraceful – and it definitely needs to change. I feel like my heart is just not in it at the moment but I don’t really want to take a break because I love it too much. I enjoy writing these posts every week and updating you all on my life. It’s just all of the other parts, I have posts half written in my drafts, pictures taken but not edited – I need to start reading other blogs again to give me the motivation I need. But the truth is, I just haven’t had the time lately and it suuucks big style. I haven’t taken part in chats which, I think, is a massive reason as to why I am not involved – I miss all of you lovelies! So tonight I am making it priority to join as many chats as possible this week to get my mojo back.

Anyway, the highlight of my week was the absolutely gorgeous meal that we went for last night with Nathan and my family for my Step Mum’s birthday. It’s a small restaurant about 20 minutes out of town called Pen Y Bont Farm. It’s a small farmhouse looking restaurant with their own rotisseries to cook the chicken on display. The prices we’re really reasonable – I would say cheap for the quality of the food. I had the Buttermilk Chicken burger with sweet potato fries and it was lush! Like, amazing, it came on a sesame seed bun with 3 southern fried chicken goujon’s, bacon lettuce and tomato. It was beautiful. The staff we’re beyond friendly, bringing drinks to the table before our glass was empty. Customer service at it’s best. I didn’t manage to get any pictures because my phone died before we’d even got there, how disappointing?

The rest of the week has been the norm, all work and not enough play. Today work held a family fun day which looked absolutely amazing, children’s rides, burger and ice cream vans, a sweet stall and lots of games! The weather held out beautifully, and everyone seemed like they were having a ball. I popped down on my break to have a quick look around and it looked like everyone was enjoying it. The one thing I love about my work place is how much the managers care for you, they always have your best interest at heart and I’ve never come across that in a work place before – that’s what makes it so special.

I’m now finishing off this post, whilst tea is cooking – were having steak tonight yummmm. I hope you’ve all had a lovely week, and are ready for the week ahead!
